We have amazing online resources for our students to help them in their learning. Each serves an important purpose. Some will fill the requirements of a Math Goal, with rewards each quarter. Others offer homework assignments, and some are for students to take responsibility for their own learning. Watch for assignments that may direct you to these sites.
Math XL for School is the accompaniment to the textbook, CMP3. Students will complete assignments at home, and will take quizzes and unit exams at school using this account. To log in, students use their firstname.lastname.aps as their user id, and the password is Aps4kids.
The advantages to this site include its tie to our textbook and its similarity to the PARCC testing format. Pearson publishing company also helps to develop our state testing. By completing assignments in Math XL for School, students gain valuable practice in using electronic entry methods similar to what they will use for their end of year summative assessments.
I recommend Khan Academy to help students with concepts that they are struggling with. The website resource is free, and students can search for specific topics and get high quality lessons and examples
This is a great resource for parents to help you understand the textbook your students are using. Lots of great information about the research, pedagogy and ways to help you help your kids!
We use Discovery Education to provide our short cycle assessments. Not only do these assessments provide us with valuable insight into students' progress, but it also gives us an amazing resource for students to work on their lowest strands in Math. Resources are available for every Common Core State Standard. Students have the standards for each question they miss on the short cycle assessment. To find lessons, have students log in with their user id first.last(last 2 digits of their student identification number). The password is Discovery. They can go to "resource center", then click on the logo for "streaming plus". Then select grade 6-8, Common Core, and Math. Given the Standard, you can find lessons, videos, examples, etc. The standards begin with the grade level, then the domain, then the cluster, and finally the specific standard. For example, 6.NS.C.6c indicates 6th grade, Number Sense, Cluster C and Standard 6c. Once you are in the Math Common Core for 6th grade, select the domain, then the paragraphs to the left are the clusters. Cluster C indicates the third paragraph, and to it's right is the standard. It only takes a little practice to easily navigate through the standards. After each Discovery assessment, students will bring home the list of questions they missed to take control of their own learning.
