Meet your teacher
Welcome to sixth grade! In our class, we will work very hard to meet all of the requirements set forth by the Common Core State Standards, as well as grow as individual students. I became a teacher 9 years ago, after a long history in prevention and work in the judicial system, including Teen Court, Juvenile and Adult Drug Court and Magistrate Court working with individuals who for various reasons have not ended up in their lives where they wanted to be. I believe that a good teacher can help students realize that with a good education and healthy self image, they can exceed their dreams. I love the middle school age. During this time, adolescents like to practice different personalities finding the one that fits. It is so important to honor this time of exploration and provide a safe environment for our budding adults to find themselves without a long term memory of failed attempts! I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education K-8 with endorsements in Language Arts, Social Studies and Math, and my Master's Degree is in Mathematics Education. Besides my teaching experience, I spent the 18 months working for our district as an instructional coach, helping develop our teachers. I serve the New Mexico State University teacher development program, MC2 and help implement training for New Mexico teachers in Math Labs and Institutes around the state during our busy summers. I love Math. I love teaching, and I love watching your students become young adults!
I grew up in Alamogordo, and after my husband and I spent a period of time in the military, we returned to raise our three sons in this area. All of us are products of the Alamogordo Public School system, enjoying the opportunities to play sports and participate in the music programs. We love the outdoors, and engage in hiking, hunting, and fishing during our free time. I love to sew for my 4 grandchildren as well as myself and my home. I value acceptance, diversity and emotional safety for those around me. I hope to find commonalities in my students so that I can build these important relationships that students need to feel comfortable and able to trust and learn from me.
